What it's about
In the spirit of the great “Mister First Nighter”, Murray Rothbard’s movie critic review pen name, Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Anarcho-Capitalist perspective.
We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter.
We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film.
The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film.
Episode 183 - American Psycho (1:17:02)
May 31, 2020 at 12:57 pm
Before we return a few videotapes, we discuss "American Psycho" a critique on consumerism and "capitalism" set on Wall Street back in the Reagan-era late 80's. In New York City in 1987, a handsome, young urban professional, Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale), lives a second life as a gruesome serial killer by night. The cast is filled by the detective (Willem Dafoe), the fiance (Reese […]
Episode 182 - Apocalypse Now (1:27:58)
May 24, 2020 at 1:36 pm
We are going to review this movie with extreme prejudice. When this came up as an idea back in February, I didn't mean Apocalypse Right Now. Also, as some of the best centrally-planned plans almost always fall through, so do the occasional individual plans. But fear not, we have a solid Plan B for a guest who has been on with us multiple times and will be sure to delight. Jon Reed returns to […]
Episode 181 - The Platform (1:21:40)
May 17, 2020 at 10:49 am
We descend into a Rawlsian nightmare in our show on The Platform tonight. In the lockdowns, many people may have started on some of the higher floors, but some started lower - the longer this goes on, with the lack of production and the massive supply chain disruptions, the lower we will all get. In the future, prisoners housed in vertical cells watch as inmates in the upper cells are fed while […]
Episode 180 - Instant Family (1:25:11)
May 10, 2020 at 12:16 pm
Easy as ABC, we'll have some good vibrations and some sweeeet sensations as we tackle the question on raising a child and if it takes a village. Our guest for The Village is back again to discuss the Marky Mark and the Brady Bunch film, "Instant Family" as our Mother's Day lockdown episode. It's our friend, the lovely, Rachel Kennerly of "Cannabis Heals Me" joining us for this conversation. A […]
Episode 179 - Napoleon Dynamite (1:12:19)
May 3, 2020 at 10:55 am
One of my favorite movies tonight, Napoleon Dynamite. We are joined by a man with some great skills. Bo staff skills. Computer hacking skills. Entrepreneurship skills. It's Miguel Duque of Amagi Entrepreneurs. We will answer the question of if the chickens have large talons in this flippin' sweet episode where we don't forget to put in the crystals. In small-town Preston, Idaho, awkward […]
